The Left's Strange New Respect for Religion

Not for these guys any talk of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, because that sort of thing is aimed solely against white Christians of the West: London School of Economics brings back blasphemy
The London School of Economics Students' Union (LSESU) has effectively made blasphemy an offence following protests from Muslim students about a Jesus and Mo cartoon posted on the LSE Atheist Secular Humanist (ASH) student group's Facebook page.

At an Emergency General Meeting the LSESU proposed 'That Islamophobia is a form of anti-Islamic racism'. The motion passed by 339 votes to 179. The winning voting bloc contained people from Far Left groups as well as Muslims. The Union resolved:

- To define Islamophobia as "a form of racism expressed through the hatred or fear of Islam, Muslims, or Islamic culture, and the stereotyping, demonisation or harassment of Muslims, including but not limited to portraying Muslims as barbarians or terrorists, or attacking the Qur'an as a manual of hatred",

- To take a firm stance against all Islamophobic incidents at LSE and conduct internal investigations if and when they occur.
No doubt they wouldn't be passing resolutions for a mere Jesus cartoon, but add Mohammed to it and you've now got an offense against modern liberal sensibility. The Bible may be mercilessly satirized and mocked, but the Koran draws out an atavistic respect for religion.

Also funny - in a sick sort of way - is this bastion of free thought, the same bastion that censured Kanazawa for politically incorrect speech, declaring any attitude of less than complete respect for Muslims to be "Islamophobia" and "a form of racism". Guess these guys and gals haven't heard that Islam isn't a race, but they can perhaps be forgiven for their assertion, since "racism" now means "anything the left doesn't want said".

  2. They irony is that Islam and the other creatures in the left's big tent (feminism, LGBT rights) are NOT going to play nice with each other.

Mark my words, one day we will see the fireworks from this...

  3. "The Left's Strange New Respect for Religion "

The usual alliance between left and Islam to destroy Western world.

    Fixed for you.

True maybe the spaghetti monster is against whites more, but this is just because the religion in a civilized world is more evident than in a primitive world.

  5. Ah, it's not respect. It's just chickenshit cowardice.

It's cheap and easy laughs to make fun of Christianity. The high ideals of Western Man, free speech, free inquiry, and free exchange of ideas, means that sneering at Western Man's religion, Christianity, holds no negative consequences.

Mock Islam, they cut your head off.

Being sniveling, mendacious, gutless wonders, fully cognizant where their best interests (staying alive) lay, they ascribe to the high ideal that if the Mohammadans ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

  6. I have tried to objectively examine this phenomenon. I can't say that my methods, sample, etc was all that great, but my results are consistent with what is seen in the "real world."

A grad student and I randomly assigned participants to complete the following items with either reference to Christianity or Islam (the Christian version is below):

    1. Art that upsets Christians should not be made because it is insensitive to their religion.

    2. People should not insult others religious views; like those of Christians.

    3. Jesus is sacred to Christians and we should all be made to respect this.

    4. Sacred aspects of the Christian faith should not be allowed to be criticized if the criticism is done in an offensive manner.

    5. Some people just go too far in their in insulting Christians, and these people should be fined or jailed.

    6. People have the right to insult Christianity, even if the criticism is offensive. (R)

    7. Everyone must be respected and if that means stopping artists from producing anti-Christian art then so be it.

    8. We should be sensitive to people of other cultures or those who hold different values and therefore even if I am not Christian I think anti-Christian art should be banned.

    9. Respect and sensitivity toward others views, like Christians, is more important than freedom of expression.

    10. People have a right to produce art that insults Christians. (R)

I have a neat little figure that shows the results, but I don't know how to post it here. If you are interested I can send you the figure or entire manuscript.

  7. Well, that just made my choice of business school slightly easier!

As others have said, these people don't actually like muslims. They hate "superstition" and misogyny, but love that muslims are now the antithesis of white European culture, which they hate even more for some reason. So they ignore it, and say we're racist for bringing it up. I'd love to see the LGBT coordinator on that student council get beaten up by some "youths".

  8. Obviously this would be against Christian teachings, but Christians might take note that the muslims' use of periodic violence against the Theo Van Goghs of the world probably accounts for this strange new respect for religion. Everyone respects people who back it up.

Violence aside, Christians should still consider economic means to voice their displeasure. I am sure there are more practicing Christians in the USA than blacks, jews, gays, muslims, hindus, and atheists combined. A coordinated boycott by just a fraction of the Christian population could be devastating to those who pleasure in mocking their faith.

But I don't think the problem here is that Christians are getting mocked when muslims aren't. The problem is that muslims aren't getting called out for what they are and what their religion is. We need plenty of loud and consistent mocking of Islam. One of the best weapons against something as insidious as Islam is mockery.

  10. LSE = Great library, poor students' union; and many students who don't give a damn about where parts of their tuition fees and spending on campus go (i.e. financing the union). No need to comment any further. Anonymous at 12:20pm knows what to do and I'm sure he's correct about the beer in one hand and a rifle in the other!

  11. Islam is an "exotic" religion practiced by people who are ethnically different (and this better) than us. Therefore, anything going against Islam is "racist".

  12. This kind of repression couldn't happen just owing to Muslims. They don't have that kind of numbers, yet.

Everyday life in Britain has become so dysfunctional, with civilized norms dissolving -- as described here -- that the academic class has written it off. In their hearts they welcome a Muslim takeover. How, they imagine, could it be any worse than things are now? Islam has the allure of a complete overturn of the existing order, typically attractive to intellectuals sensitive to the faults of their own culture and prone to idealize anything different.

It's sad to see a country that for centuries carried the torch of intellectual freedom now destroying it, but that comes with the other symptoms of decline. At this point the UK might as well go all the way and be the first European country to adopt Islam. Then all the pretenses will fall away and nothing will hide the religious and political tyranny. Others who have not yet fallen under the sway of Islam will get a good view of what they're up against. The fall of Britain could stiffen spines elsewhere.

  13. Rick Darby: Everyday life in Britain has become so dysfunctional, with civilized norms dissolving -- as described here -- that the academic class has written it off. In their hearts they welcome a Muslim takeover.

It's a way (insane, but a way) of saving face, of continuing to lie to oneself, of clinging to all the discredited "isms" of one's youth, of never having to admit that one was wrong, wrong, wrong about all one's "progressive" lunacies. Observe the aging soixante-huitards expressing admiration for "Islamic values", while pointing sanctimoniously to the drunken white slag on the sidewalk. Yet they are the very ones who have spent their lives mocking those same "values" in their own Western tradition. And they still mock - as long as its a Westerner advocating his own traditional values. From him, any plea for a measure of sexual self-control, any restraint, any dignity, any reserve, any modesty - Repression! Colonel Blimp! Mrs. Grundy! "Moral panic"!

Yet, disgusted with the grotesque results of their own crusades (hah), they're too corrupted to admit any responsibility or show any contrition. So, having defeated the "conservatives", they project all their own decadence onto them. Insane narcissists, they'll burn the West to the ground rather than admit they were in the wrong about anything.

Or maybe they're just so bloody stupid they can no longer even see the obvious grotesque contradictions in their world view.

Either way, to hell with them.

"Racism" is an expression of moral outrage. It is used almost exclusively against Whites when there is any conflict of interest with non-Whites. The intent is to pathologize, demonize, and guilt-trip Whites, regardless of the details of the conflict, and regardless of the politics or religious nature of the conflict.

The extra-special term used when the non-Whites are jews is "anti-semitism".

  15. I heard a whiterperson (not quite SWPL, but very mainstream ... thinks Motley Crüe is metal) today explaining that the reason "they hate us" is that "we" bombed them and killed thousands. I was about to ask him why Germans don't hate us (answer: there's no German Koran and certainly no Sura 9 and CERTAINLY no Sura 9:29) but of course, once the leftist (dhimmi) point was made, the conversation was over and "everyone" remembered that we're not supposed to talk about "politics" at work. (My quotation-mark key is getting worn out, sorry.)

Anyway, I'm sick to death of dhimmis. I'm sick of dhimmi B.S. about Mossadegh and how it's all Eisenhower's fault (everything is Ike's fault blah blah).

  16. OT, but not really given the subject matter of this blog, the latest from Drudge is a link to a story in Flint, MI where a white teen was beaten by a couple of blacks who videoed the event and posted it to facebook.

What is it going to take to make the rest of the Euros in America and elsewhere wake up? I couldn't watch the video. Once I found out from the comments the racial angle, I could not watch. I can't stand seeing innocent kids like this having their lives ruined because elite whites want to feel good about themselves. It's funny how all these elite bastards manage to either put their kids into private schools or move to high rent areas that keep out the diversity. I really feel bad for the great masses of poor and lower middle class whites that have been sacrificed so that their supposed betters can rid themselves of whatever guilt trip they are on.

  17. I do think Dawkins would be against this type of thing though. I think I have seen him criticize it, if I remember correctly. One thing about Islam is that they aren't feminists. I am not for stoning women or raping them, but feminism has gone too far. Most of Western Civilization didn't think women were equal to men, it's only very recently. Just read Schopenhauer. A Cardinal in Italy in 1960 said that women shouldn't wear pants. Clothes should cover the body, not accentuate it.

  18. There is a special variety of Brit who will do anything, say anything, and believe anything that paints whites, the English, the West, or America in a bad light.

These fools have run amok in the UK for the last 50 years, with the results that we see now; not just the Empire destroyed, not just the white colonies screwed, but Britain herself transformed into a violent, impoverished, deracinated, weak and humourless shadow of her former self, and the whole concept of Western Civilization derogated and spat upon at every opportunity.

But they will rot in the Hell they have created, as some are now finding out.

There is a new book about the UK in the early 70's called State of Emergency and the author blasts the English who don't want 3rd world immigrants as lazy and stupid. He praised the immigrants as being so smart and industrious and the Brits as lazy and entitled. Ironically, many of the Brits who he criticized probably fought in WWII. It comes across just like you described.

  23. No one gives a damn about Mohammed and his religion. The whole thing is not about respect but fight for superiority among White Brits. Politeness is inculcated into each Brit toddler, and one Brit (liberal) found that another Brit (reactionary) violated their shared sacred code of politeness.

    1. This is, of course, correct.

If Basher[1] al-Assad's wife and family do not make it out of Syria, perhaps the elites who are forcing this anarcho-tyranny on the British people should reflect on what the result of their machinations might be.

I suspect that they are wrong, in that one the pressure ramps up enough, the lid will come off here as well.

  24. Dennis, Vox Popoli had a post about this a few weeks back. The head of the atheist society, who "stepped down" over the controversy, is named Robbie Yellon - Jewish. I can't figure out how to do a tinyurl yet, but it's from the Daily Mail website, 19 January.

  25. "Politeness is inculcated into each Brit toddler, and one Brit (liberal) found that another Brit (reactionary) violated their shared sacred code of politeness."

What is inculcated by the media and academia, and must be demonstrated by any White toddler permitted to ascend into leadership, is more than a "sacred code of politeness". It is a deference to so-called "minorities". Failure to defer is pathologized as "racism" and the offender is removed from power.

This deference started with and still continues to apply most especially to the jews. That's what "muslims are the new jews" means.

The problem isn't unique to Britain, nor is it highlighted only by muslims. Until Whites recognize "liberal" deference to "minorities" as a genocidally anti-White problem, and oppose it, the problem will remain.
