Hors de combat
An important project calls me away from the blog for awhile. With no other excuse than that, I'll leave you with the great Argentine pianist Martha Argerich playing Scarlatti's Sonata in D Minor. Western Civ at it's finest, and all. Just how anyone getting on in years can have a nervous system capable of pulling this off is quite beyond me. Maybe it's her supplements.
In my absence, please keep reaction alive.

She is almost 70 y.o. with three children. Wonderwoman.
ReplyDeleteUndoubtedly a great talent, Argerich has always had beauty going for her too. Here is an album cover from an early concert.
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased to see she still wears her hair long.
Sorry about that duff link. Let's try again.

"look at me... I can play fast too..oh please look...Maybe if I play super fast no one will be able to tell how nervous I am" ..."
ReplyDeleteGive me Andre Watts playing this piece anyday. much more clarity and refinement
"Maybe it's her supplements."
ReplyDelete^Piracetam? ;)
Argerich was always one of my favorites, especially the Prokofiev piano concerto 3 I bought way back in the late '70s I used to play in a cassette, believe it or not, back when I was still jogging strenuously.
ReplyDeleteWhen do you plan on returning?
ReplyDeleteIs it me alone? I'm getting an error on the clip. A lot of people don't like Argerich because she's too much technique and little soul. I heard her play Prokofiev once and quite liked it.
ReplyDeleteOne STDV asked when I was returning. I am currently in a Third World country and should be back next week. I was only just now able to moderate comments. Truthfully, I'm a bit bored here and can't wait to get back to blogging. The problem with travel is that it outs you into close contact with the masses, and they don't provide much intellectual stimulation. I'll probably have more to say about that later.
ReplyDeleteEngland can be a bit like that Dennis.

That's what Fred says we're doing. And by God, he's right. The Feddle Gummint can't even deliver my mail. And the kids around here, well their greatest ambition is to be either a permanent junior college student, or rap singer. George Bush just nominated a completely unqualified woman, his consigliere, to the Supreme freakin' Court, and guess what, he is going to get away with it! We don't even have a southern border anymore. Bye,bye, USA. Does it follow that you have not left the USA?
(I am just kidding).
You're killing me. Come back already.
ReplyDelete"Her diet consists largely of yogurt, mineral water, coffee and champagne. She is a nocturnal creature who practices into the morning or sits till dawn with friends."
ReplyDeleteNo supplements, no pound steaks to over-activate mTOR.
Perhaps more importantly she is a nightbird who doesn't go out in the enervating midday sun much which presumably kept vitamin D at a very moderate level - the right level if you want to be fully functional at 70.
Vitamin D, nervous system and aging.
