Your Anti-Racist Seal of Approval


Husband, dad, manager and investing expert?
Something's got to give.

I refer to the well-known but ill-defined phenomenon of the appearance of blacks and other minorities, out of all proportion to their actual numerical representation in the population, in advertisements. Is it just me or does it seem that now, with the election and all, that blacks have seen their appearances in ads surge to an all-time high?

I've never seen any quantitative study or even rational examination of this, on the face of it very unusual, phenomenon. But I do think that most people, white or non-white, will agree that this is real. What they will perhaps not agree on is whether this is good or bad; on the one hand, non-whites may see it as both a sign of increased tolerance or acceptance on the part of whites - in fact, most whites will see it that way too. If it were confined to the mere proportional appearance of blacks and other minorities in ads, one might even agree. However, the huge disproportion between actual numbers and that represented in ads leads one to think that much more is going on here.

Since we are still celebrating the Obamagasm - although with each new pronouncement of his the Dow loses a couple hundred points - we know that the most important fact about white Americans and their history is that they, and it, are racist. On this all right-thinking people are agreed. So, what corporations, businesses, even non-profits need is for their ads to signal that "I got my mind right" (Cool Hand Luke, for those that miss the reference); that they know that white America has been very, very bad and that they want no part of all that bad stuff.

Ads are meant to entice, to make the product or service seem cool; you don't see many doddering elderly using walkers in ads. Right now, the hippest people around are blacks, ergo, they appear in lots of ads. They're not only hip, they're superior.

Minorities in ads are the anti-racist seal of approval. And I must say, I'm getting very tired of having it thrown in my face every day.

Dennis, I think the disproportioned 'show' that you speak of creates another real problem, beyond irking you to no end, that being it misrepresents the true status of at least a third (perhaps more) of blacks (12-15M). The 'Huxtabalization' effect, whereby blacks are presented as a monlithic-class closing the gaps in the eyes of the country, while in truth the black urban and rural underclass decays at a faster pace.

If you see a commercial come on TV and there is a man in it who looks even slightly over age 35 or 40, it's a safe bet that the commercial will be for one of the following:

1. Hair dye.
2. Viagra/Levitra/Cialis.
3. Flomax.

Men otherwise become invisible in commercials once the first signs of middle age appear.

It's been self-evident to me for a long time that the overrepresentation of blacks in ads and glossy covers, especially for non-profit and educational ventures, has been intended to shore up affirmative action. By continuously pretending that blacks are 40%* of every department, scholarship program, career development thingy, whatever, you can keep up the required level of leftist outrage at the fact that blacks only form 10%.

Creating imagery is the point. Old, fat, and funny-looking people are all underrepresented, as are whites.

* That's a guess, based on a typical cover having five people on it, necessarily including a black female, a black male, and an East Asian.

This may have unintended consequences. I admit the r word actually does apply to me, but the PC ads are so pushy, even people who don't have issues have to notice. On the local classical radio station, the voiceovers for ads for Kaiser Permanente and a few other companies are obviously done by black people. I expecially can't stand to be lectured about my health by a nagging black woman. How many black people listen to classical music in their car, anyway? I wonder how much white business Kaiser has lost because of this.

Dennis has hit on a very real development, which is now reaching such an extreme level that it has gone beyond the ability of rational people to ignore.

I found some old homemade VHS tapes of Christmas movies this last Xmas, from way back in the late 80s and early 90s. One thing that struck me was how many more whites were in the commercials, and in general how much more normal the commercial presenters were.

Another problem arises from the disproportionate number of blacks in media spots is that it increases the already great number of people in the USA and around the world who think that there are far more blacks in the USA then there really are. A poll conducted last year indicated that most people thought blacks were between 30 and 70 percent of the population with only a small percentage thinking that blacks were at or below the actual number. This misconception may fuel demands for more and more government intervention to “create equality” by mandating in effect overrepresentation. This on top of the fact it is difficult and near impossible to find “enough minorities” to fill up the demand for them as it is.

Another bizarro-world aspect of the strict (although evolving) regime of racial representation in ads is the insistence on showing UN-like groups of ostensible Americans having a grand old time together. This is distinct from the portrayal of professional settings such as a marketing meeting. The unrealistic quotas are present there too, of course. But they are somehow less absurd than beer commercials featuring equally diverse (but identically dressed and acting) groups of young men hanging out in an apartment watching some TV show. Or, sillier still, jewelry ads with young women spanning the obligatory hue range discussing their romantic travails (i.e., the difficulty of getting their boyfriends to pony up for expensive colored minerals).

Nevertheless, the crowning achievement in this trend (although in a slightly different setting) must be crime shows' casting of judge roles, with "Law and Order" leading the way. Thanks to the producers' tireless propaganda we now know that the only thing that protects New York from descending into hell caused by ubiquitous homicidal upper and middle class whites are righteous sistahs on the bench.

I wonder how much white business Kaiser has lost because of this.

I actually switched from Kaiser to a PPO this year since Kaiser's selection of white doctors (in my area of L.A.) was so slim. I'll keep them in mind just in case I start wanting a vibrant, colorful doctor from Indonesia or India, but for now I prefer my boring, old, American-born white doctor.

I watched a little bit of "Matrix Reloaded" last night and didn't realize how thoroughly it was steeped in anti-white/pro-minority propaganda. The good guys were a collection of male and female minorities and white women, led by a half-Asian/half-white guy and a black guy. 95% of the bad guys were white men. They even had a couple of freaking albino (caucasian) bad guys!

The home of the good guys in the movie is called "Zion."

Real people is uninteresting. In Latin American teleteatros (soap operas) all the actors look Swedish or Russian. In American soap operas all the middle class people is African while downstairs is peopled by Whites. It is a convention, everybody knows that it is only entertainment.

Exactly! And in the first movie, we learn that many if not all of the people who manage to escape the matrix are expert computer hackers. Shouldn't we be seeing more dorky white and Asian males and fewer blacks in Zion? How many black computer hackers are there? Ummmmm....

Minorities are way, way overrepresented on the cover of college catalogs. If the minorities don't actually exist, they will be photoshopped into the picture.

So why are black students more prevalent in viewbooks than on campus?

But that just begs the question. Telenovelas use the best-looking, most glamorous, and whitest actors that they can find. Hollywood used to be similar. American media now thinks that blacks are the most glamorous, so that's quite a shift.

I too am struck when I look at older television and commercials that everyone was white...and how nice that was. It was our society and naturally our media was going to reflect that. It was relaxing because you could just watch and get into the program or observe the ad without this constant subliminal racial hectoring over quotas. A black face in an ad or tv show is jarring because it is like a liberal political statement shoved in your face right in the middle of another stream of thought, interrupting your immersion in the subject matter.

As time goes by I more and more envy homogenous societies. They can just get on with the business of living instead of spending all this energy on making sure that all the competing identity groups are adequately represented in everything. This is what it means to live in a non-homogenous society: constant, unremitting competition for power between identity groups.

The worst part of the current situation, by far, is that the great majority of this hectoring is being done by white liberals to other white people. If it was just blacks doing it, it wouldn't bother me because I expect it from them. But when whites betray their own people to take the side of other people who hate us and want to see us brought low if not outright destroyed, it really irritates me. In my opinion the core of this whole racial struggle is not between whites and other groups but between liberal whites who are at best indifferent to our survival as a people and those of us who think we have a right to continue to exist and to take action to preserve ourselves.

I console myself by remembering that this is the worst period - the period after our control starts to slip away and before the mass of us wakes up and says NO. It was great before when it was unambiguously our nation, and it will be great again when there is an organized, identifiable group of us I can ally with to fight this. But for now it's just unpleasant.

They're really ramping it up here in Canada too, which is unsurprising given that we have the highest per capita immigration rate in the world. It's still shocking when you see the ads though. If you went solely by what you see in ads by the federal government, you would think that white males did not exist (except maybe in wheelchairs).

The winter olympics are coming up in Vancouver, and the number of minorities in the commercials are disproportionate to their numbers in the country at large (though not in the big cities) and grossly disproportionate to the number of minorities who actually care about winter sports.

In my professional capacity I run into this issue a lot. Recently I was tasked with reviewing a colleagues’ draft of guidance to our marketing people on some of the legal issues involved with advertising. Sadly, it gave good legal advice.

When hiring actors for print ads, you must be sure to hire actors refective of the broader community. If our print ads present only White people, this may be construed by government authorities as an attempt to signal that minorities are not welcome. In addition, you must be sure never to portray minorities or women in roles that are typically subservient, such as serving a white resident coffee, for example. When sending out mailers, you must use the census tract numbers to make sure that mailers are not being directed only to White neighborhoods. Many of our competitors have faced costly and damaging civil rights litigation due to such ads.

There you have it.

Some of this "forced diversity" is downright laughable, in that it portrays social settings that likely have never occured in real life.

There is a housing development near me that advertises its accessibility to water by showing a 60-ish black man and woman kayaking. Old black people love to kayak; that is, when they aren't playing squash!

And then there's the commercial where the successful 50-ish white guy is talking to his 20-something black women doctor. Yeah, lots of old rich white guys have black women doctors.

Dennis: American media now thinks that blacks are the most glamorous, so that's quite a shift. American media is still in trance at having an African President and First Lady. This infatuation is temporary, it may last a few months more. Basically, males of all colors consider black women inferior. No one is interested in black porn. Skin whitening creams and hair straitening agents selling just as always. Every American woman is painted blonde or a redhead, even the Africans and Chinese. I have yet to hear of a skin blackening cream. Telenovelas and soap operas show a fantasy world, everybody knows that it is a convention, not real.

I recently saw an advertisement in Physics Today for an APS job-fair. It had an accompanying picture - three people sitting in chairs holding cell-phones to their ear - which was stupid enough. I mean, what does it mean? How does this imply "Job Fair"? And presumably, an unemployed physicist is smart enough, and desperate enough, to catch the meaning without a picture. Anyway, the picture showed three people - a middle-aged woman, a young woman, and a young black man with dreadlocks. You know, just the kind of people one always sees at physics conferences.

The purpose of this propaganda is not to engineer the illusion of diversity. It is to engineer the reality of dispossesion.

By the way, there is a growing drumbeat to apply Title IX considerations to University Science Departments, and you can bet that the Obama administration will be down for this. There's a McCormick & Schmick's in my town, and it has a certain number of old photos and plaques on the walls. Some of these are of ads from 60 or 70 years ago, e.g., one for a fancy passenger train service from New York to Chicago ("The Water Route -- So You Can Sleep"). The man pictured in the ad? A lantern-jawed WASP with his hair slicked back. Same thing in the other ads from the 30's and 40's. Granted, a greater percentage of Americans back then were WASPs, but not all Americans were, and those who weren't seem to have been excluded from the imagery in those ads (from what I've seen). So what's going on today (and has been going on for years) is an overcompensation for that. It's a little over-the-top at times, but I don't lose any sleep over it.

Incidentally, there's a group photo I cribbed from an NY Times article that I plan to include in a post this weekend. You may find it interesting in the context of this discussion.

Right on. I've been noting this over-representation in ads to my friends for several years, not just since Obama. Here's a challenge: Find a new music video on CMT that doesn't include blacks. Obviously, that's mandated by the network. Even Nascar must have a black announcer, ESPN being the most PC, diversity-mongering network operating.

Another point worth noting: although a lot of this is due to the zeal for diversity imagery among the elite, part of this is because blacks happen to punch above their weight in popular culture (and, of course, sports). That can't all be blamed on an elite conspiracy. It's probably mostly white kids paying for song downloads that make rappers like Jay-Z moguls. That's the free market at work.

Really? I haven't watched CMT in a few months (since, like all music video channels, they mostly play anything but videos), but I don't recall seeing too many black people in videos by, say, Gary Allan, or Montgomery Gentry.

Note to J: I disagree that "everyone knows it's not real." Our impressionable children don't know that it's not real. By this deliberate policy white children are being conditioned to expect to be dispossessed of the country that their ancestors founded, while at the same time black children are being conditioned to have exaggerated expectations for their own futures --- expectations that can never be realized short of additional governmental meddling. This is a prescription for social unrest, if not racial violence, in our children's futures.

I agree with Tarheel. There was a report that advertising agencies have increased demand for blacks for advertising models and commercial work, but that there aren’t enough blacks to go around. This is a policy that has been adopted from the top down, it isn’t a result of research feed back, where there is a grass roots demand for black women to pretend to be suburban house wives in TV commercials. In reality, something between 60 and 80 percent of black females are not married, a majority will never be married.

This is part of a policy to mold perceptions. The left wingers who claimed in the past that blacks had low self-esteem were making up that “research” as the actual studies showed that blacks had very high self-esteem. This appears to be a problem that our first lady has had in that an exaggerated sense of self esteem collides with the reality of lack of ability to match it. The kind of dishonest propaganda we see is feeding into that and at the same time denigrating others.

I think this is probably the result of a huge disconnect between script writers and central casting.

95% of the bad guys were white men. They even had a couple of freaking albino (caucasian) bad guys!

White albino's seem to be the most picked on of all minorities. I can't think of one albino character who is good other than the lead in "Powder."

The home of the good guys in the movie is called "Zion."

Babylon would have been a more fitting moniker no?

It was great before when it was unambiguously our nation, and it will be great again when there is an organized, identifiable group of us I can ally with to fight this.

This operates to the advantage of white folk since they are overrepresented as commentators on sports which are predominately black.

Our impressionable children don't know that it's not real.

To All: When the forefathers of this country, both in the north and the south, decided to build its future on the backs of imported slave labor, they permanently etched into stone a fate that their ancestors would face for all practical time. The science of this decision is facinating. The results however, too often tragic for all involved. Nevertheless, it is a decision that we all will have to live with, as there is no undoing it - complain all you want.

More TV ads project images of racial harmony

Ever see an inner-city schoolyard filled with white, Asian and black teens shooting hoops? Or middle-aged white and Latino men swigging beer and watching the Super Bowl on their black neighbor's couch? Or Asians and Latinos dancing the night away in a hip-hop club?

All it takes is a television.

Yes, that mesmerizing mass purveyor of aspiration, desire and self-awareness regularly airs commercials these days that show Americans of different races and ethnicities interacting in integrated schools, country clubs, workplaces and homes, bonded by their love of the products they consume.

Think about one of Pepsi's newest spots, "Refresh Anthem," which debuted during the Super Bowl. The ad, which features Bob Dylan and hip-hop producer will.i.am, is a collage of images from the '60s and today that celebrate generations past and present.

Whites and blacks are shown returning from war, surfing, skateboarding, dancing and waving American flags at political rallies, while a boyish Dylan and a present-day will.i.am take turns singing the Dylan classic, "Forever Young," each in his signature style.

Or, take the latest hit spot from ETRADE, which stars the ETRADE Baby, a 9-month-old white boy, and his newest buddy a black infant who, from his own highchair, agrees with the wisdom of online investing even in a down economy.

Ads like these are part of a subtle, yet increasingly visible strategy that marketers refer to as "visual diversity" commercials that enable advertisers to connect with wider audiences while conveying a message that corporate America is not just "in touch," racially speaking, but inclusive.

It wasn't always like this. For much of the past century, "minorities were either invisible in mainstream media, or handed negative roles that generally had them in a subservient position," says Jerome Williams, a professor of advertising and African-American studies at the University of Texas at Austin.

"Today, you're starting to see a juxtaposition of blacks and whites together, doing the things people do ... Now, advertisers are not in a position of pushing social justice. But to the extent that they can put whites and blacks together in situations, I think that's a good thing."

In these times, multiculturalism is cool and likely to get cooler, says Sonya Grier, a marketing professor at American University who is studying how consumers of different races respond to multicultural ads and "ethnically neutral" models in ads.

Despite their flaws, it would be hard to argue that the multicultural messages of today aren't vastly more dignified and realistic in their portrayal of minorities than those that appeared a few decades ago.

Stop watching TV.

With the internet there is no need to watch TV. In fact there is no need to listen to the radio unless you want to listen to conservative talk radio. All the music you would ever want is available online for download.

Once you walk away from centralized broadcasting and its constant liberal messages you will feel a lot better and will no longer be giving precious minutes and hours of your life to liberals.

James: First of all, thanks for your willingness to engage us here.

Second, regarding the importation of black slaves: yes it was tragic and there's no undoing it, but what's under discussion here isn't that. It's that blacks' lesser achievement than whites is taken by common opinion to mean that the society as a whole is racist. Thus we must be propagandized with images of successful blacks. Blacks are here, are citizens, and must be treated with equality, but what we "complain" about is that it's gone beyong equality. The overrepresentation of minorities in ads is an example of this; it's also an example of social engineering from above.

Ronduck: Except for a few minutes in the break room at work, I don't watch TV. (Therefore I hardly know what acquaintances are talking about.) But there's no getting away from it. Print, internet, radio, it's everywhere.

Isn't that usually the case with advertising? How often do you see gorgeous, well-spoken blond barmaids wax poetic about the virtues of a virtually hop-less lager while pouring it into pint glasses for their patrons? I can't say I've seen that in real life, but I've seen it in Budweiser commercials.

Why do most of you seem to expect harsh realism from advertising? Do you expect it from art?

Do most girls who work at cigarette factories sing like the women who sing the title role of Carmen? Was Beethoven a fool for putting Schiller's "Ode to Joy" in the fourth movement of his 9th Symphony? Isn't this how part of it goes, in English translation:

"Your magic reunites those
Stern custom has parted;
All men will become brothers
Under your protective wing."


Schiller obviously wasn't writing of the world as it was, but how he hoped it could be. Maybe some of the admen are doing the same thing.

Dennis: Because I'm black and don't care what anyone thinks (of me), I have a pass to convert complaints to the real issues. Those 12-15M identifiable blacks I spoke of earlier are not pulling their weight and this is what really pisses white people off. And this is true eventhough there are another 30-40M unidentifiable whites who are also slackers (with no special mistreatment to claim). This disproportionality is what truly grates. So the issue with the ads is really a cover for anger that a higher percentage of poor/underserving blacks are getting so-called help, in the eyes of white America. Of course, its another subject that the programmed help that everyone is so pissed about was never really help at all, and only exacerbates their status, and lines the pockets of the white elite.

I would add two other points in inverse order of importance. First, it doesn’t help me to not watch TV, not only because I don’t watch much commercial TV anyway but also because the affect of the dishonest propaganda that disturbs me is on society as a whole and not just my individual self. Secondly, I hope James isn’t implying some level of collective “guilt” for slavery. If he is, then it follows that other forms of collective guilt would apply, not only for all blacks based on the criminal acts of a minority of blacks, but also on for example, Jews for the actions of Neocons. Others could come up with their own examples of inappropriate forms of collective guilt, but this is a form of thinking that is dominant in our universities and is spreading through the rest of society. In the book the Shadow University, Alan Kors and left civil liberties lawyer Silverman argue that the basis for extreme PC is the notion that an individual’s merits and demerits are determined by the guilt or innocence of the ancestral group they from which they descend.


It doesn’t need to be said that if Collier’s argument were valid, then the aspects of dishonest media propaganda we are “complaining” about (i.e., non-submissively analyzing in a rational fashion) would have been prevalent for the past several decades. But of course they for the most part weren’t as the article below from today’s press indicates. I would say that this article is pretty much a complete refutation of Collier’s argument. Sorry about that Mr. Collier.

"Today, you're starting to see a juxtaposition of blacks and whites together, doing the things people do ... Now, advertisers are not in a position of pushing social justice. But to the extent that they can put whites and blacks together in situations, I think that's a good thing."

This is a subject area that conservatives don't discuss nearly enough. We focus on policy and ideology, on race relations, immigration, crime, but not on the culture-media environment that surrounds and bathes us all. The focus here has been on the wildly disproportionate blackness in ads and drama shows; what bothers me at least as much is the disgusting nature of the ads, for example the Viagra ads, and the medical ads, with their long lists of alarming sounding medical conditions which if you have you must stop taking their product. What can be done about this?

Some thoughts.

Organized activism: Imagine a conservative membership organization that systematically targeted through mass letter and phone campaigns the companies and programs running the most offensive ads, in other words, a grassroots organization like NumbersUSA, with 500,000 willing telephone callers, devoted to "Bringing Back Normalcy to the Airwaves." I think something like that could have an enormous effect.

But what if that's not viable, for whatever reason? That would lead us to the larger problem, which is that modern society is controlled by impersonal forces outside our reach. Paul Gottfried is always talking about the managerial regime under which we live. Does he, does anyone, have any notion of how this managerial regime could be toppled?

But if reform through large-scale activism is not possible, and if the overthrow of the managerial state/corporate complex is not possible, what is left, other than withdrawal and secession?

That's as far as my thoughts go at the moment.

I think there are signs out there that a somewhat hidden wave of reaction to all this forced diversity and associated propaganda is building among whites, especially white men. Look at the way this posting has almost 40 comments compared to a handful of comments on other postings on the blog. I notice a similar blitz of comments on anything race-related on other blogs or news sites. Many, many of the comments are from angry white men.

And all of this anger is spreading while whites are still 65% of the population. Thank goodness we're not in the position of whites in South Africa, who were already outnumbered something like 10-to-1 at the time they ended apartheid. There was no leeway there for whites to wake up to what was happening and change course. If eliminating apartheid was bad for whites - and it's a disaster - there was no going back. Fortunately we have a much rosier situation than that.

The black fellow who thinks it's too late to change things and that we can complain all we want to no effect is going to have a rude surprise coming. We're going through a period where whites, perhaps the most idealistic people on earth, are finding out firsthand the real world results of putting the ideal of race-blind egalitarianism into practice. It's already clear to anyone who just observes the situation with some degree of objectivity that this is going to be a disaster for whites, who are outnumbered 10-to-1 in the world and have to have nations of our own if we are going to flourish or even survive. We may be idealistic, but we're not dumb and we're not suicidal. People are waking up and they're angry. There just has to be a little more time for the failure of the race-blind multicultural experiment to become apparent, so that more former liberals like myself will say "enough". Every day, more whites are mugged, raped, discriminated against, have their neighborhoods destroyed, and are lectured endlessly by diversity goons, and wake up to what is happening. Comment threads like this are proof of it.

One other thought.

I find myself angry about the trends in this country a lot. I try to tell myself not to let it bother me so much, because there is so little I can do about it. But it feels wrong to block it out and do nothing. I have a lot of frustration about it though. A lot of anger. And a feeling of frustration that there isn't some obvious organization with numbers and power I can join to be with people who feel like I do.

Thinking about this tonight, for the first time in my life I felt viscerally why people would have wanted to join the Nazi party in Germany. I can imagine feeling dispossessed, angry, powerless -- and then finding an organization where organized rallies of tens of thousands of people just like me, feeling the same feelings, sharing the same anger, would all shout slogans in unison. I can imagine the tremendous feeling of power and brotherhood that would generate, as contrasted with the powerlessness and isolation I feel now on these issues.

I seriously do NOT want a party of killing and hatred like the Nazi party to grow up here. But for the first time I can understand the very real appeal of the approach the Nazis took, of organizing those immense, orchestrated rallies that demonstrated to the rest of the population and the world that they were a force to be reckoned with.

If we could have something like that, but more more American, much more about freedom instead of totalitarianism....

I might compare today’s Madison Avenue copywriters to “mental workers” in a totalitarian state's Propaganda Ministry, but not to the hack Schiller, who, for better or worse, at least was motivated by honest sentiment.

Dennis, I agree 100%, thought I was losing my mind because others I mentioned the phenomenon to just shrugged it off or acted dumb. Yeah, acted.

While I don't disagree that this whole business is nefarious and develops under the cold eye of programatic liberalism, I can't help but wonder if the larger driver here is just good ol' money. The adds bring in more revenue simply because the majority of people with the majority of cash and credit-- white folks-- believe that they are doing their anti-racist penance by patronizing those companies. Think about it. Do you think an major brand today would start running ads with a conspicuously relative paucity of minorities?

The problem is there is no incentive I can see that would start them disengaging these practices. But they result from society's ideals, not the reverse, so their corruption can be rectified in theory.

I must defend Schiller's universalist poem and Beethoven's adoption of it in his magnificent symphony.

In this age of universalist tomfoolery, where particularity is attacked and despised, Schiller may seem like the grandfather of multicultural p.c. silliness, as a commentator wrote, but note that Schiller wrote during a time of rising nationalism. He and Enlightenment thinkers like Kant were swimming against the historical tides, and, like all social critics, they focused on the pressing problems of their societies. Narrow-minded parochialism was still an issue for the Europe of that age.

There is a truth to the universalist vision -- men are brothers in some sense. We should treasure our common humanity and our common inheritance from a benevolent Creator. In the fevers of reaction, we should not despise the truth that the Left loves simply because the Left loves it and has behaved foolishly because of it. To do so would be to commit the same mistake as the anti-racist folks after the defeat of the Nazis. Consider whether the West would have insisted on importing the world into their lands if they were not trying to distinguish themselves from those terrible racial purists. Human beings too often overreact to problems and swing the pendulum radically in the other way.

Personally, my hair stands on end when I listen to Schiller's Ode in the Ninth Symphony. Affirming the particular doesn't require a denial of the universal.

I work in advertising, so let me offer a few thoughts. There are very few blacks in the creative departments of major advertising agencies--in fact, I have never met any, but I assume there must be some somewhere. The same situation pertains at the executive level of the businesses that are our clients. As most of us have noticed, the absence of blacks among our peers causes discomfort among whites, and the opportunity to cast a black performer in a TV commercial offers a fairly painless means of alleviating this discomfort. "Let's all pat ourselves on the back--we gave the role to a black man!"

When a commercial calls for three or four couples to be socializing together, it is de rigeur that one of the couples be black. (The woman invariably lighter skinned than her male companion, of course.) In one pre-production meeting, my creative director was leaning toward casting two black couples with one white couple. Trying to forestall the difficulties that might arise as a result, I asked if we weren't taking a risk by going so black. "Do you have a PROBLEM with that?" asked the creative director triumphantly, playing to the room. I fed her the line, and she got to play the hero.

In fairness, I should point out fact is that acting is one of the fields where blacks can compete successfully against whites. Often, in reviewing tapes of a hundred actors auditioning for a role, a black performer will stand out as the best, or at least among the best two or three.

The left, as discussed in this thread, in fact favors the destruction of the largely white and Christian aspects of Western Civilization. If the left actually favored equalit, and reall believed such a thing, blacks would be represented in proportion with their actual numbers. The fact that they are so grossly over-represented in areas where they are actually inferior (e.g. managerial roles, scientific roles, judicial and leadership roles), implies that the people forming these advertisements have something in mind other than equality. The former tells you to "diversify your portfolio" while the latter claims "diversity is our strength." Both are strongly committed to investing in the "other."

They choose short-term gain in return for our long-term divestment.

Many of us are in the very thick of the consequences of investing in the "other" with the unintended effect of divesting in "ourselves." The ROI is negative and is only being rationalized with the idea that we should invest even more in the "other."

So in short, we have ultraliberals in both the cultural and economic sphere seeking our continued investment in the "other." Each is seeking their own specific gain, but both result in the divesting in ourselves.

They even had a couple of freaking albino (caucasian) bad guys!


Good call. A few years ago the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote a hate-piece about how terrible The Lord of the Rings movies are--far too white for their tastes. The piece specifically contrasted the evilness of the LotR trilogy with the multiracial goodness of the Matrix. The Matrix is SPLC approved.

But they are somehow less absurd than beer commercials featuring equally diverse (but identically dressed and acting) groups of young men hanging out in an apartment watching some TV show.

I've been saying for years that there are more of these multiracial groups of friends hanging out on television ads than there are in real life. I can go for weeks without seeing any whites hanging out with blacks in the fairly diverse, liberal city I live in.

If we could have something like that, but more more American, much more about freedom instead of totalitarianism....

I'm with you. How nice would a political party that could actually make some claim to standing up for European-Americans be? There's some hope on the horizon IMO. White males are starting to get a bit riled up. And it's only going to get worse. Unless the economy rebounds quickly, the nation will be primed for explicitly pro-white politics by the end of Obama's first term.

He says "universalist", a term that gets kicked around but does not have the same meaning or connotation as modern liberalism. You're right of course, the prejudice of the Left is successful beyond parody, approaching evil both by commission and omission.

But when men lose that sense from the heart, requiring no thought, that they are indeed men among their brothers in a way that God bestows and can only be universal, then they have forsaken the measure of man. The notion that this fraternal bond must be manifest in the diversity of all cities and countries is the opposite, and equally destructive, expression of this belief.

As Prof. Gottfried knows, there are technical fixes (like IRV and PR) that could bring relevance even to a group like the Constitution Party. Eighteen states(though not PA) allow
Constitutional amendment by initiative/referendum. Some of those states must have enough disillusioned Republicans, Ron Paul supporters and others who see through the sham of "the two party system" to make it possible to pass amendments that would give third parties a chance to have actual elected officials.

Raising money would be the biggest stumbling block, but the Paul campaign proved to be pretty successful at that.

Reflect on the fact that Geert Wilders would almost certainly be a complete unknown if the Netherlands used the Anglo-American first-past-the-post system instead of PR.

I have also noticed this trend in advertisement. The first thing I thought was maybe it was just a way of representing more minorities. But upon further observation this is not the case.

If that were true we all would see other minorities such as hispanic, indian, asian and middle eastern being represented as well which is definitely not the case.

That sounds plausible, but I'm not so sure. I don't think he's that much more phenomenal than Margaret Thatcher in terms of standing up for civilization. FPTP tends to militate toward larger parties, which reconcile themselves to accommodating a greater diversity of opinions. If one of the "tolerated" opinions says something as common-sensical as Europe has the right to defend itself by blocking out groups of immigrants bent on its destruction, it stands to reason that it has as much a shot of prevailing in intraparty processes (conferences and constituency party procedures on the Anglo- side, or primary elections on the American side) as it does in elections.

My assessment is that a Tom Tancredo or Ron Paul has about the same stature as a Pia Kjærsgaard or a Philippe de Villiers. (Geert Wilders towers above, to be sure; this is a combination of his scholarly approach and his occupying the vacuum left when Fortuyn was murdered.)

As to who fills the role in the UK, it's hard to say. There really is no one. Nick Griffin might be in that role if not for his rude comments about Jews in 1990s. There might be some sort of latter-day Thatcherites in the shadow cabinet ... whether or not they speak out against leftist racialism, I don't know. So I'll concede that you may be right for Britain.

No one has yet commented on a particularly sinister aspect to all of this: race ambivalence. I am seeing this more and more, especially in "mixed" advertising. Some of the people clearly belong to this or that race, while others are mixed race. Even when just one person is featured one often sees a striking 'raceless' aspect of the physical features.

This is part of the same effort to dissolve distinctions between male and female. Mark Richardson at Oz Conservative has posted extensively on this topic. If the boundaries are blurry enough then who can even form an opinion about race or gender? If you find these presentations frustrating it means you are a racist of course.

These trends are much older than you may think. Perhaps broadcast TV was behind corporate and OR do-gooders.

In mid-eighties I came across marketing literature for some software products targeted at engineering departments in large corporations.

US version had photos carefully presenting multitude of racially diverse users, many, many blacks (30-40%) females (30-40%), asians (30%), rest were male and female whites divided 50/50.

We all know how well represented blacks and females were in engineering departments back then, much fewer females than today and about the same as blacks (<2% ?)

Almost identical marketing document (obviously translated to Japanese) for Japanese market had ALL images replaced by photos of happy Japanese males in suit and tie with a very occasional Japanese female that looked like that she is collecting requests for coffee from her male colleagues.

Message was very clear: Japanese will not stand for multi-culti bulls*t, Americans are too cowardly and will pretend to not notice naked anti-white-male propaganda.

The public airwaves need to be taken from the broadcasters and auctioned off. All other radio spectrum needs to be sold to its current leasee for a reasonable price. A decade ago TBN admitted that their licenses for their stations had been threatened by the FCC over some technical matter. Paul and Jan Crouch stated on the air that they were prohibited from talking about their seven year ordeal on the air because the FCC gave them a gag order that threatened to revoke their licenses automatically if the talked about it.

But if reform through large-scale activism is not possible, and if the overthrow of the managerial state/corporate complex is not possible, what is left, other than withdrawal and secession?

The South can secede and maybe Alaska can too. In the case of Alaska there is the threat that the Asian countries may decide to colonize a newly independent Republic of Alaska. Palin's husband was a member of the Alaska Independence Party so her state may be the first to go.

SAB Miller did just this during the 2008 Christmas season. South African Breweries bought Miller and moved their corporate headquarters to London, probably bringing their racially aware executives to the city. When I saw their pallet of beer at my store it was topped by a cardboard sign showing 20 happy young Whites paired off, drinking Miller beer around a Christmas tree.

For Mark, I was in your mental shoes ~5-7 years ago. Another lifetime in racial speak. Yes, things have gotten worse, though they have also gotten much better where whites are more vocal, at least on the net and even in certain print media. The world is in constant flux and we will not know when the watershed event takes place until it does. When it does, things will change fast and furious, as was the case for the USSR. The financial debacle has been a godsend for us AND for Europe.

I work in advertising, so let me offer a few thoughts. There are very few blacks in the creative departments of major advertising agencies--in fact, I have never met any, but I assume there must be some somewhere.

I want every white man in your position replaced with a black man.

Not kidding. You SOBs deserve to get what you're giving, in spades.

Same goes for everyone working behind a camera in the media, and everyone working in print media.

But, that would only be a moral victory. I'm more concerned with political victories. Which is why I want all whites in front of the camera (by "all" I mean ALL) replaced with non-whites; preferably blacks with little non-black admixture.

In fairness, I should point out fact is that acting is one of the fields where blacks can compete successfully against whites.

I'm glad to hear it. This confirms something I've been saying about actors and acting for years now.

The sooner the better. I'm a white ethno-nationalist. I used to oppose the "worse is better" attitude so prevalent in my political circles, but now I have a wide exception: high IQ whites.

The more high IQ whites are dispossessed, the sooner we can get on to the next stage of development (hint: kumbayah won't be the theme song)

Some time ago, Maddox noted the enthusiasm of black women for wireless routers (foul language / general crudeness warning).

I've noticed that not only are blacks overrepresented in advertising, but for years there's been a trend towards featuring bushy-haired light-skinned blacks. (That Windows Vista ad on the page I just linked is a good example.) Ponder the psychology behind that.

This article missed the REAL issue - which is the endless derogatory portrayal of exactly one group: white males. TV ads, TV shows, movies, even print ads are loaded with portrayals of white males as fat, old, sexless, unfashionable, unhip, stupid, clumsy, etc. When are the REAL white males going to stand up against this defamation??

The speaker at the recent fundraiser for the Occidental Quarterly magazine (www.theoccidentalquarterly.com) here in Atlanta pointed out that the "marketeers" tested very very carefully before beginning to overload ads with blacks. They discovered that blacks WOULD buy more product if there were blacks in the ads; however blacks in the ads did not affect whites (whites bought as much / did not notice / were not affected).

I do not know whether it was because whites bought products on the basis of reasoned investigation (which I think, for the majority of whites, is unlikely: alas for the stupid brainwashed whites!); on the basis that they felt good about being "nonracist" for buying from ads over-representing blacks, or because they just didn't notice (of course, as it becomes more and more heavy-handed, perhaps they will...)

p.s. I don't agree "the worse the better" – because it's relying (way too heavily)on the pressure turning sheep into wolves... Pressure never turns sheep into wolves – and the vast majority of whites are now un- or ill-educated sheep. Do we have time to educate, and therefore have a hope of turning some sheep into wolves? I doubt it.
