Immodesty

There is a young woman in my workplace who wears thong underwear beneath pants made with thin fabric, and a bra of the type which lets the nipples be easily seen beneath a flimsy T-shirt. Why do women want to dress that way? She looks practically half-naked. Perhaps more to the point, why does the workplace allow her to do so?
As to the latter, the answer is non-judgementalism. No one wants to take a stand, that is assuming anyone finds it wrong to begin with.
Personally, I find it a brazen piece of rudeness to have to be subjected to that everyday, and to have my workplace and profession degraded. She dresses like it's Spring Break and they are filming Girls Gone Wild.
Everywhere you see it these days: girls dressed like sluts. Are there any young women these days who want to look modest? Modesty is so much more becoming to a woman, but I suppose these girls' parents never told them that; the parents in question did what all parents seem to do these days: they let their kids be raised by the boob tube.

I'm certain television has to take some of the blame.

My real worry is, media-governed attitudes are promoting both absolute acceptance (not mere tolerance) of practically half-naked clothing styles and acceptance of large number of immigrants from countries where much more modest styles are demanded of women.

A former friend of mine - someone Auster would immediately describe as "eloi" - decided to have a tan on a beach in her bikini, alone, in India. Some Muslim males decided that made her available. She got away before being raped. A sad story that could have been worse.

It made me wonder - how many people could have told her her behavior wouldn't be tolerated in India, but refrained, for fear of sounding intolerant of the intolerance? After all, she wasn't attacked by all India Muslims, only a handful. I'm not sure there is anything anyone can say to a woman like your coworker - they dress like this to prove they are independent. Criticism or even substantive warnings will just confirm their need to "express themselves" yet more radically.

Dumb phrasing. I meant, "She got away soon enough so she wasn't raped," not like she got away and then was caught or something.
